GUANGZHOU, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — Five people have been confirmed dead after being washed away in a mountainous area in Hoidong County, south China's Guangdong Province, local authorities said Sunday.

After police received information at around 8:22 p.m. Friday that five people on a hike to Baimashan Mountain had been swept away by a flood, local authorities immediately launched a rescue operation.
