GAZA, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — Hamas on Saturday reiterated its refusal to disarm before the establishment of a Palestinian state, responding to statements by U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East Steven Witkoff.

In its statement, Hamas said: “The resistance and its weapons will not be abandoned until all our national rights are restored, above all the right to establish an independent, fully sovereign Palestinian state.”

During a meeting with the families of Israeli hostages at a demonstration in Tel Aviv on Saturday, S. Witkoff said: “The Hamas movement has declared that it is ready to demilitarize.”

“Currently, several Arab governments are demanding that Hamas demilitarize… So we are very close to a solution that will end this war,” the special envoy added, as reported by the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.

In a separate statement, Hamas accused Witkoff of making his visit to aid distribution centers in the Gaza Strip “a pre-planned theatrical performance designed to mislead public opinion, whitewash the image of the occupiers and provide political cover for their policy of starvation and systematic murder of innocent children and civilians in Gaza.”

The statement said the US administration was "fully complicit in these crimes of hunger."

S. Witkoff visited the Gaza Strip on Friday, where he toured the controversial Gaza Humanitarian Fund aid distribution center in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. –0–
