GUANGZHOU, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — South China's Guangdong Province has activated a Level 4 emergency response mechanism for possible heavy rains, the province's Flood, Drought and Wind Control Headquarters said Sunday.
Heavy rainfall is expected in Guangdong from Sunday to Tuesday, which could cause flooding, torrential rains, geological disasters and urban waterlogging, according to the provincial meteorological service.
Forecasters said heavy rains would hit the east of the province and the southern Pearl River Delta region.
The headquarters has called on local authorities to strengthen flood monitoring and early warning to ensure public safety and minimize losses from potential natural disasters.
China has a four-tier flood emergency response system, with tier one being the most serious. -0-
