Tashkent, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) — Uzbekistan plans to build a new international airport in Tashkent region, the press service of the head of state reported on Friday.
“President /of Uzbekistan/ Shavkat Mirziyoyev was informed about the implementation of major projects in the transport sector,” the statement said. “With the development of the economy and the acceleration of the pace of life, the need for transport communications is also growing. It is expected that by 2030, passenger traffic through Tashkent will increase to 15 million people. However, the current airport of the capital does not have the necessary capacity and, being within the city limits, is not subject to expansion,” the press service emphasized.
It is noted that in this regard, it is planned to build a new international airport in the Tashkent region. At present, proposals submitted by foreign companies within the framework of the private partnership mechanism are being considered.
