BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) — Taihu Lake in Jiangsu Province, China's third-largest freshwater lake, has recorded "No. 1 Flood," the Ministry of Water Resources said Saturday.
Heavy rainfall from Typhoon Koh Mei caused the lake's water level to rise to an alarming 3.8 metres on Saturday.
The department is closely monitoring the flood situation in the Taihu Lake basin and has dispatched a task force there to support local flood prevention efforts.
“Flood No. 1” is a classification given to the first rise in water level to reach a certain level of severity on a single river in a year. -0-
