BEIJING, Aug. 2 (Xinhua) — The box office revenue of "Nanjing Photo Studio," a new Chinese film about the Nanjing Massacre, exceeded $1 billion (about $140 million) by the end of Friday (the eighth day of release), with moviegoers' flow in cinemas nationwide exceeding 30 million, according to data from ticketing platforms Maoyan and Beacon.

The film "Nanjing Photo Studio" tells the story of a group of Chinese citizens who seek refuge in a photo studio during the brutal occupation of Nanjing by the Japanese invaders.

Directed by Shen Ao, the film became the first release since the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year) to achieve such a high box office performance, and has maintained its top position in China's daily box office since its release on July 25.
