Moscow, July 30 /Xinhua/ — Russia intends to cooperate with China on international platforms to prevent the use of the Iranian nuclear program for political pressure on Iran, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Wednesday, answering a question from a Xinhua correspondent.
“We intend to interact with China on international platforms in order to prevent the West from using the issue of the Iranian nuclear program to exert political pressure on Iran,” she said.
M. Zakharova recalled that on July 22, a trilateral meeting of representatives of Russia, Iran and China took place in Tehran, where the status of negotiations on nuclear issues and the lifting of sanctions against Iran were discussed. “The meeting demonstrated a high level of coordination with Chinese and Iranian partners on issues related to the situation around the Iranian nuclear program,” the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized.
She called the renewal of previously cancelled sanctions resolutions against Iran unacceptable. “We are convinced that this issue can be resolved exclusively by political and diplomatic methods,” added M. Zakharova. –0–
