BANGKOK/PHNOM PENH, July 30 (Xinhua) — Representatives of the Thai and Cambodian armies held talks in border areas on Tuesday morning to implement a ceasefire agreement reached a day earlier, both sides confirmed.

Commanders of the Thai and Cambodian military regions met on Tuesday and agreed to a ceasefire and freeze troop movements until a meeting of the General Border Committee (GBC) scheduled for August 4, Thai army spokesman Vinthai Suwari said. He added that a ceasefire had already been in effect on the Thai-Cambodian border before the meetings.

Cambodian Defense Ministry spokesperson Lieutenant General Mali Socheat, in turn, said that the Cambodian and Thai militaries had agreed to observe the ceasefire and stop building up troops to avoid confrontation and tension. According to her, the parties also agreed to resume communication and provide each other with information.
