BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhua) — China's Ministry of Finance said Wednesday that the country's central budget will allocate 90 billion yuan (about 12.6 billion U.S. dollars) to pay child care subsidies this year.
The program, which will be created as part of transfer payments from the central budget, will help local governments cover nearly 90 percent of the total amount issued, ministry official Guo Yang said at a press conference.
China recently announced the introduction of a state-subsidized child care system as part of the country's broader efforts to support families and encourage birth rates.
