PHNOM PENH, July 30 (Xinhua) — Cambodia has rejected accusations by the Thai army of violating the ceasefire in the border area, Lieutenant General Mali Sochheat, spokeswoman for the country's Ministry of National Defense, said at a press conference on Tuesday.
“On behalf of the Cambodian Ministry of National Defense, I would like to reject the statement by the Thai army spokesman that there was fighting that violated the ceasefire agreement,” Socheat said, stressing that the Cambodian armed forces are strictly implementing the ceasefire agreement, which came into effect at midnight on Monday.
Earlier, Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Vechayachai said that minor clashes after the ceasefire came into effect could have been caused by indiscipline among Cambodian soldiers. Bangkok responded proportionately, and the situation is “now calm.” –0–
