WASHINGTON, July 30 (Xinhua) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Tuesday he has given Moscow a 10-day "deadline" to end the conflict with Ukraine, shortening the 50-day period he had outlined two weeks ago.

Russia has “10 days from today” to reach a ceasefire, Trump told reporters on his way back to Washington after a visit to Scotland, or he would be willing to “put tariffs and stuff.”

On July 14, the US president threatened Russia with “harsh tariffs” if it did not agree to a ceasefire with Ukraine within 50 days. On Monday, during a meeting with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, he shortened the deadline to “10 or 12 days,” citing frustration with Moscow’s “unwillingness to compromise.”

The Kremlin responded that it had taken note of D. Trump's statement and would continue its actions in Ukraine. "The special military operation is ongoing, and we also remain committed to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and ensure our interests in the course of this settlement," Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said on Tuesday. -0-
