Moscow, July 29 /Xinhua/ — The Kremlin has read US President Donald Trump's statement on shortening the timeframe for a settlement in Ukraine and his lack of interest in high-level contacts, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Tuesday. He stressed that Moscow remains committed to peace.
“We took note of President Trump’s statement yesterday,” said D. Peskov.
The Russian president's press secretary also commented on D. Trump's statement that he is no longer interested in talking with Russian President Vladimir Putin. "I would like to avoid any assessments, I repeat that we have taken note," the Kremlin spokesman said.
At the same time, D. Peskov noted that Russia, despite D. Trump’s statements, will continue the special operation to protect its interests, but is interested in a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
"We also continue to maintain our commitment to the peace process to resolve the conflict around Ukraine and to ensure our interests in the course of this resolution," he emphasized. The question of a possible meeting between the presidents of the Russian Federation and the United States, according to the Kremlin representative, "was not on the agenda and is not on the agenda."
The US President announced on Monday that the deadline for progress in resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine was reduced from 50 to 10-12 days.
Earlier, D. Trump threatened to impose tariffs on Moscow and its trading partners in the amount of “about 100 percent” if a ceasefire agreement is not concluded within 50 days. –0–
