MINSK, July 29 (Xinhua) — The second power unit of the Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant (BelNPP) has been connected to the grid after the completion of technological operations to restore the generator's cooling system, the Belarusian Energy Ministry reported on Monday.
Earlier, diagnostic measures were carried out at the second power unit of the Belarusian NPP. It was disconnected from the grid by personnel on July 16. The reason was the activation of an alarm about a deviation in the operation of the generator cooling system – the non-nuclear part of the unit.
The Ministry of Energy noted that the unit is currently operating at nominal capacity. The radiation background at the station and in the observation zone has not changed. Electricity supply to consumers has not been disrupted.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant, located near the city of Ostrovets in the Grodno region, was built according to the standard Russian design “AES-2006”. It consists of two power units with a capacity of 1200 MW each. The general contractor was the company “Atomstroyexport” /part of the state corporation “Rosatom”/. –0–
