BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) — China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said Monday it has allocated 50 million yuan (about 7 million U.S. dollars) to support flood relief efforts in north China's Hebei Province.

According to the SCRR statement, the allocated funds will be primarily directed towards eliminating the consequences of the natural disaster and restoring infrastructure and public utilities in the affected areas, including damaged roads, bridges, hydraulic structures, schools and hospitals, in order to ensure a speedy return to normal production and daily life.

On Monday, the National Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Commission launched a Level 4 emergency response in connection with the flooding in Hebei Province.

Let us recall that China has a four-tier emergency response system, with the first tier being the most serious.

On Friday, Chinese authorities released 23,000 items from the central disaster relief fund, including folding beds, towels and blankets, to support emergency evacuation and relief efforts in flood-hit Hebei and Shaanxi provinces. -0-
