BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) — China and the Republic of Korea (ROK) should deepen mutually beneficial cooperation and pursue common development, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Monday in a telephone conversation with his ROK counterpart Cho Hyun, which was initiated by the ROK.

As Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, noted, China and the ROK are important neighbors and cooperation partners, and commitment to good-neighborliness and friendship meets the common interests of the peoples of the two countries.

The Chinese diplomat noted that after the members of the new government of the Republic of Kazakhstan took office, the heads of the two states held a telephone conversation, bringing new positive dynamics to bilateral relations and outlining a course for further joint work.

Wang Yi stressed that China and the ROK should be strategic cooperation partners in the true sense of the word and advance their bilateral relations to a higher level. To achieve this goal, both sides should first of all maintain policy stability, the Chinese Foreign Minister stressed, adding that the PRC has always attached great importance to the development of bilateral cooperation and has been pursuing a consistent and stable policy towards the ROK.

He expressed hope that the ROK will ensure that its policy towards China is as stable, sustainable, predictable and not subject to fluctuations.

According to Wang Yi, both countries should also uphold independence and autonomy. The relationship between China and the ROK is based on common interests and benefits the peoples of the two countries, and is not aimed at any third party and should not be restrained by any third party, the Chinese diplomat stressed.

As Wang Yi pointed out, China and ROK should enhance mutual benefits as they enjoy close economic relations and deeply integrated industrial and supply chains.

As beneficiaries of multilateralism and free trade, China and South Korea should jointly resist “decoupling and decoupling” and jointly protect the stability and smooth functioning of global production and distribution chains, the head of the Chinese Foreign Ministry noted.

He added that China supports the ROK in holding an informal meeting of Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) leaders in the second half of this year.

Cho Hyun, for his part, said that the ROK attaches great importance to relations with China and looks forward to closer high-level exchanges to further advance the bilateral strategic cooperation partnership in the future.

Noting that the ROK and China have established close trade and economic ties and formed an excellent model of cooperation, Cho Hyun noted that the ROK intends to actively promote bilateral free trade negotiations and deepen trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.

According to Cho Hyun, the ROK hopes to strengthen contacts and coordination with China, correctly assess the historical past, and jointly maintain peace and stability in the region.

The parties also exchanged views on issues of coordination and cooperation in multilateral areas. –0–
