BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhua) — The Office of the Food Safety Commission of the State Council has issued a notice asking local food safety departments to strengthen work to ensure food safety during the summer holiday and flood season, the State Administration for Market Regulation said.
The notice calls for a comprehensive review of potential risks and hidden threats in the following areas: the condition of production facilities, infrastructure and equipment, raw material procurement, processing and production, inventory management, and employee health.
The document stressed that local authorities should strengthen supervision of basic food products, including rice, flour, cooking oil, meat, eggs, dairy products and seasonings. Particular attention should be paid to products intended for vulnerable groups such as infants or the elderly, products that are centrally distributed, donated and sold in flood-affected areas, as well as products that are produced and sold by businesses in these areas, the notice said.
The notice stressed that any evidence of illegal or substandard activities should be promptly investigated and punished in accordance with the law. It called for a strict crackdown on the production and distribution of adulterated, substandard, expired or contaminated food in disaster-hit areas and key regions, including rural areas and villages within urban areas. –0–
