MANILA, July 25 (Xinhua) — The Philippines' Supreme Court announced on Friday that it has barred impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte.

“The Supreme Court has ruled that the House of Representatives’ impeachment motion against Vice President S. Duterte is not subject to review for one year and that due process or fairness shall apply in all stages of the impeachment process,” Supreme Court spokesperson Camilla Ting said at a press conference.

“Our basic law is clear, the end does not justify the means… there is a right way to do the right thing at the right time,” added K. Ting, citing the decision, which was unanimous.

She said the Supreme Court found the articles of impeachment unconstitutional on due process grounds, adding that because of that, "the Senate cannot acquire jurisdiction" over the proceedings.

“The court said this does not absolve Vice President S. Duterte of any charges against her, but any subsequent petition seeking impeachment can only be filed from February 6, 2026,” she said. –0–
