KABUL, July 20 (Xinhua) — More than 1,500 Afghan refugee families returned home from neighboring Iran and Pakistan on Saturday, state-run Bakhtar News Agency reported Sunday.

According to him, a total of 1,576 families returned to Afghanistan on Saturday, of which 81 families came from Pakistan and the remaining 1,495 from Iran. All the returnees were reportedly provided with necessary assistance at checkpoints.

The return of Afghan refugees has been gathering momentum in recent months as host countries pressure undocumented refugees to return to Afghanistan.

Over the past year, more than 1.3 million Afghan refugees have returned home, with some 600,000 reportedly returning from Iran in June alone. –0–
