WASHINGTON, July 19 (Xinhua) — The United States on Friday rejected amendments to international health regulations adopted by the World Health Organization (WHO) last year.
US Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert Kennedy Jr. and Secretary of State Marco Rubio issued a joint statement formally rejecting the WHO's 2024 amendments to international health regulations.
Officials called the changes “vague and broad” in their terminology. U.S. agencies “put Americans first in everything we do” and “will not tolerate international rules that violate Americans’ freedom of speech, privacy, or identity,” they said.
The amendments, adopted in Geneva in June 2024, are designed to ensure that medicines, therapeutics and vaccines are available around the world in the event of the next pandemic. –0–
