UNITED NATIONS, July 19 (Xinhua) — Daily fighting, preventable deaths, worsening fuel shortages, displacement and despair are increasingly turning mass shortages into the norm for residents of the Gaza Strip, the United Nations humanitarian body said Friday.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said Israeli authorities had issued another population displacement order, this time to northern Gaza. There were also alarming reports of malnourished children and adults in hospitals with insufficient resources to treat them.
According to OCHA, despite the resumption of limited fuel imports, the energy crisis continues to deepen. Due to the depletion of fuel reserves, solid waste collection has had to be suspended in recent days, and a number of water wells have been shut down, mainly in the Deir el-Balah area.
It is noted that specialized medical services such as dialysis have been reduced or completely stopped, and other services may also be disrupted due to fuel shortages. The limited remaining fuel supplies are mainly used to ensure the functioning of health systems, water supply, telecommunications, and transportation.
Humanitarian movements inside the Gaza Strip remain restricted as only seven out of 13 attempts to coordinate the movement of personnel and cargo with the Israeli authorities were successful, allowing humanitarian teams to deliver fuel, collect water, move generators, provide hygiene and sanitation supplies, and deliver much-needed medicines, OCHA said. –0–
