MEXICO CITY, July 11 (Xinhua) — Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday condemned recent U.S. raids targeting migrant workers in farm fields, calling them unfair and damaging to the U.S. economy.
“These raids are deeply unfair and will cause serious damage to the U.S. economy,” Sheinbaum said at a daily news conference.
Highlighting the significant contribution of both Mexican and other Latino migrants to the U.S. economy, she said: “Without this labor force, the fields in California and other states will go unharvested.”
Following the California raids, Mexican consular officials have been visiting detention centers to determine the number of Mexicans detained, she said.
She also announced increased funding for Mexican consulates in the United States, especially to strengthen legal support for detained citizens. “Our brothers and sisters there need legal assistance, and we will make sure they get it,” she said.
