BEIJING, July 10 (Xinhua) — Southwest China's Sichuan Province and Tbilisi, the capital and largest city of Georgia, signed a sister city agreement on Thursday, adding a new member to Sichuan's circle of international partners, news platform chinanews.com.cn reported, citing a source in the Foreign Affairs Office of the Sichuan Provincial People's Government.

In recent years, with the continuous promotion of the joint construction of the "Belt and Road", the exchanges and cooperation between Sichuan Province and Georgia have been continuously deepened. By the end of 2024, the total import and export volume of the two sides amounted to about 159 million yuan (about 22.2 million US dollars).

The establishment of sister city relations with Tbilisi is expected to open a new channel for Sichuan Province to exchange and cooperate with the South Caucasus region. In the future, the two sides will deepen practical cooperation in various fields, thereby promoting bilateral connectivity to a higher level. -0-
