SHIJIAZHUANG, July 10 (Xinhua) — Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Guoqing has stressed the need to continue all-round efforts to combat floods and reduce losses from natural disasters to ensure the safety of people and their property to the fullest extent.

Zhang Guoqing, also a member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee, is on an inspection tour of Henan Province in central China and Hebei Province in northern China from July 9 to 10, checking the progress of preparatory work at a number of flood-control projects.

Noting that some parts of China have recently experienced heavy rains, mountain floods and landslides, Zhang Guoqing called on all relevant departments to make every effort to help the affected areas in disaster relief and recovery.

He called for proactive measures to identify hazards early and respond promptly.

As the country enters a key period of flood control and an active typhoon season, all local government bodies and relevant departments must be fully prepared for extreme situations, especially at the grassroots level, Zhang Guoqing stressed. –0–
